Chacovachi and Maku Fanchulini

A key figure of Latin American comic art, Argentinean buffoon clown Chacovachi has been taking his biting and rebellious humour to circus rings, streets and international festivals since the 1980s. For 15 years he has shared life and stage with clown Maku Fanchulini. Now the couple brings to Brazil a show that summarizes their almost 40 years of experience.

With acid and universal humour, Fritos Refritos discusses the role of clowns in today’s society and the absurdities of the daily routine. “(The performance) is based on our experiences. We have children together and have been sharing the same profession and life for such a long time”, the couple says.

Improvisation is a fundamental part of each performance: using a repertoire of 30 acts created throughout their careers, the performers adapt the content of each show to its climate and audience. “The circus brings together people from different latitudes, united in laughter and the strength of the human spirit. There have never been boundaries for the circus or for humour”, the artists say.
